Job Summary

How you will make an impact:
You will perform a variety of duties in the preparation, presentation, and administration of feeding Inmates in a secure environment. 

As a Unit / Food Services Manager, you will: 

  • Order provisions from approved suppliers in accordance with the daily menu
  • Scheduling and supervision of all staff including Inmates, where applicable
  • Training of all staff, including Inmates where applicable, on a daily basis in the procedures of a foodservice environment, and in the basic health and hygiene codes and the monitoring thereof
  • Liaise with authorized correctional personnel with regards to special requests
  • Monitor and implement special diets to Inmates.
  • Prepare, cook and present the required number of meals at the correct time and in the correct condition to Inmates in accordance with the facilities meal timings
  • Ensure all safety and hygiene practices are strictly adhered to
  • Report in accordance with procedures all damages and repair requirements to designated personnel
  • Ensure that all company codes, procedures and requirements are fully met
  • Performs other related duties such as ordering, receiving, storage, taking inventory, account reporting, training, directing, communicating with clients and administration of Inmate workforce. Also responsible for special functions as required.
  • Complete all reports as required. This is to include Inventory extensions, period end summaries, the preparation of payroll, purchase summaries, transfer forms, meal count forms and any other related reports as required
  • Invoice and collect accounts receivables as necessary
  • Investigate any client or company concerns in the first instance.
  • Responsible (in collaboration with the District Manager) for all hiring and discipline of staff.
  • Performing other related tasks as required by the District Manager or local Director.

About you: 

  • Must have Food safe level two or equivalent provincial certificate
  • Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must have five years previous managerial experience, preferably in an institutional environment
  • Must pass and maintain a clean criminal record and comply with the centre’s security requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal in the English language.
  • Physical ability to perform all job-related tasks.
  • Ability to operate all related equipment.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. 
  • Must practice good personal hygiene.
