Job Summary

The Director of Procurement, Category Development - Protein is responsible and accountable for the creation and development of category development strategies, execution of category business plans, and the delivery of category development purchasing income for Foodbuy & Foodbuy Member Development committed customers.  

Now, if you were to come on board as one of our Director of Procurement, Category Development - Protein, we’d ask you to do the following for us:

  • Own the strategic creation, development and implementation of multi-year category roadmaps and plans, and oversee the category development team to ensure efficient management of other functions, delivering overall business objectives and enhancing business performance
  • Remain current on industry trends that could lead to development of new strategic initiatives in providing sustainable growth, sales and profitability
  • Oversee others within category assignments to ensure effective management in driving value and adding support to other business units
  • Advocate for and facilitate the Category Development Team collaborating with sector marketing groups in developing effective sales focused and forward thinking promotional plans inclusive of a merchandising, specific channel focus and vendor participation support
  • Negotiate legal contracts and maintain agreements
  • Mentor team members, establishing and providing career path planning
  • Champion collaboration with all departments for successful implementation of supplier programs to maximize full value potential
  • Participate in strategic sourcing efforts within categories as needed
  • Suggest on-going continuous improvements and encourage cross-functional synergies in driving maximum value to the organization
  • Provide and direct both day to day and long term project management of assigned category activities and initiatives
  • Identify product and category growth opportunities, create plans to support execution and oversee the development and implementation
  • Maintain inflation increases to below set KPI year over year, ensuring competitive pricing always
  • Support implementation of Bravo platform and ensure commitment to process by all stakeholders
  • Communicate regularly with procurement and distribution to ensure a robust understanding of the marketplace, issues and opportunities so they can continuously update the clients and Operations
  • Steward more senior level manufacturer relationships to support category development plans and ensure alignment to sourcing strategy for product and distribution

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Category Development, with 3 years at a management level (preferably in foodservice)
  • University Degree in a related or relevant field
  • High level of leadership and managerial skills to successfully manage and develop a robust team of Food Category Development Managers
  • Must possess an expert understanding of the complexities and unique growth opportunities in each unique business channel and be able to provide added value solutions to multiple channels
  • Business acumen as well as strong analytical and supervisory skills
  • Team player with excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Excel in planning and execution of business plans
  • Polished presentation skills
  • Competent in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and database management
