Salary: $90,000 - $97,000

Job Summary

 

This Technical Writer MEP Engineer position supports a multidisciplinary engineering team by developing high quality technical documentation for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems and related technologies. The Technical Writer will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, field service, and commissioning teams to produce clear, accurate, and user ready documentation for internal and external stakeholders.

 

Scope of Work & Key Deliverables


Documentation will support the full lifecycle of MEP related systems, including design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and long term operation.

 

Deliverables include

 

•    API and integration manuals for engineering tools and system interfaces
•    Manufacturing and assembly process instructions for MEP components
•    Service documentation such as installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting manuals
•    Commissioning documentation, including checklists, procedures, and system validation guides
•    Training materials such as slide decks, quick reference guides, and technician onboarding content
•    Application notes, engineering bulletins, and technical advisories
•    User guides and customer facing documentation for MEP equipment and systems
•    Essential Responsibilities
•    Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and commissioning SMEs to develop and maintain technical content aligned with system specifications and stakeholder requirements.
•    Support commissioning activities by documenting procedures, capturing field feedback, updating commissioning checklists, and ensuring documentation reflects real world installation and startup conditions.
•    Apply established documentation standards, templates, and style guides to ensure consistency in formatting, terminology, and tone.
•    Edit and proofread content for clarity, accuracy, and technical correctness, simplifying complex engineering concepts into accessible language.
•    Incorporate approved visuals, diagrams, schematics, and existing text to maximize reuse and maintain consistency across documents.
•    Gather and validate technical inputs from SMEs using structured review processes, including markup reviews and revision cycles.
•    Maintain document repositories, version control, and revision histories.
•    Communicate project status, information gaps, and documentation needs to management and engineering teams.
•    Meet assigned deadlines and accurately track time spent on documentation tasks.

 

Working Environment


•   9-month contract position
•    Hybrid schedule with occasional on-site work in engineering development labs
•    Occasional virtual meetings or training sessions outside standard hours to support global teams
•    Periodic schedule flexibility to meet critical project deadlines
•    Occasional presence during commissioning or system startup activities to observe procedures and gather accurate documentation inputs

 

Minimum Qualifications

 


•    Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Engineering, Technology, OR 7 years of documented related field experience 
Required Experience & Skills

•    1–3 years of experience in technical writing, engineering, or a technology related field, ideally supporting mechanical, electrical, or plumbing systems.
•    Experience creating structured technical documents (drafting, organizing, editing) for engineering or technical audiences.
•    Ability to translate complex MEP engineering concepts into clear, concise documentation.
•    Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to accuracy and grammar.
•    Strong research and self learning skills to understand new technologies and engineering processes.
•    Ability to follow established documentation standards, templates, and formatting guidelines.
•    Experience collaborating with cross functional engineering teams to gather and validate technical information.
•    Ability to revise content written by SMEs whose first language may not be English.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).


Preferred 


•    Experience documenting HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing systems, or related MEP equipment
•    Familiarity with commissioning processes, field service workflows, or startup procedures
•    Ability to interpret CAD drawings, schematics, or engineering diagrams
•    Experience in manufacturing or field service environments
