RETAIL FOOD SERVICE MANAGER

Salary: 70,000 - 80,000 / year based on experience

Schedule: 6:30am to 3:30pm - Monday to Friday

Job Summary

As the Retail Food Service Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the cafeteria and retail food services within the Food & Nutrition Services department of a 700 bed acute care hospital food service operation, reporting directly to the Director of Dining Services. This role is pivotal in ensuring exceptional customer service, operational efficiency, and compliance with corporate standards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead team for operating a cafe, lobby coffee/gift shop and a Starbucks Coffee Shop.
  • Oversee 10 daily direct reports - union employees.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and uphold positive public relations through safe, efficient, and resource-conscious operations.
  • Direct team members to deliver scheduled retail services in alignment with corporate policies and presentation standards.
  • Train staff in customer service excellence, portion control, cashier operations, and safety/sanitation protocols.
  • Complete and submit all required reports (daily, weekly, monthly) in accordance with corporate policies and deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, patients, and families to foster a collaborative and responsive environment.
  • Enforce corporate cash handling procedures to prevent loss and ensure financial integrity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Services Technology/Management or a related field; or Associate’s degree with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience in retail foodservice management, depending on education and training.
  • Strong understanding of food and catering trends, with emphasis on quality, sanitation, cost control, marketing, and presentation.
  • Experience with P&L accountability and contract-managed services is a plus.
  • Proven background in cash retail operations; Volante POS experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in kosher food service is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and coaching abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage across all levels of the organization.
  • Solid knowledge of financial, budgetary, and accounting practices.
