Job Summary
As General Manager at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, this role leads the hospitality experience within a setting where food, service, and nature intersect. The position oversees dining, cafés, and a robust private events program, all thoughtfully integrated into the Garden’s seasonal rhythm, sustainability values, and cultural mission. Every guest experience, from a casual daytime visit to a milestone celebration, should feel welcoming, intentional, and reflective of the Garden’s unique sense of place.
This leader brings calm, visible leadership and a genuine appreciation for Brooklyn Botanic Garden as both a public space and an event destination. Success in the role comes from building strong teams, partnering closely with culinary and events leadership, and balancing hospitality excellence with operational discipline, all while honoring the Garden’s role as a treasured community institution.
Responsibilities
• Lead all front of house and hospitality operations across restaurant service, cafés, and private events
• Partner closely with the Executive Chef and events leadership to align service, menus, and guest flow
• Oversee hiring, training, scheduling, and development of hourly and management teams
• Set clear service standards while fostering a supportive, inclusive, and professional culture
• Manage financial performance including labor, revenue, and controllable expenses
• Oversee event execution for weddings, corporate events, and cultural programs on site
• Ensure compliance with food safety, alcohol service, and Garden policies
• Act as a primary point of contact for client, Garden, and internal stakeholder relationships
Qualifications
• Five or more years of senior restaurant or hospitality management experience
• Background in full service restaurants, cultural institutions, hotels, or event driven venues
• Experience leading teams in high volume or high expectation environments
• Strong understanding of service standards, guest recovery, and hospitality operations
• Comfort partnering with culinary, sales, and events teams
• Financial acumen with experience managing labor and operating budgets
• A leadership style that values mentorship, collaboration, and continuous improvement
