Job Summary

The Route Driver Training Manager is responsible for training, coaching, and developing Relief Route Drivers to successfully transition into commissioned Route Driver positions. This role oversees onboarding, performance development, route readiness, safety compliance, and operational support while ensuring exceptional customer service and route execution.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Training & Development
•    Lead onboarding and training Relief Route Drivers.
•    Develop and deliver training on route operations, customer service, safety, product knowledge, and sales techniques.
•    Conduct ride-alongs, field observations, and coaching sessions.
•    Evaluate driver performance and readiness for commissioned Route Driver roles.
•    Create development plans to address skill gaps and support career growth.


Team Leadership:
•    Supervise and mentor Relief Route Drivers.
•    Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
•    Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance management.
•    Support employee engagement, retention, and advancement opportunities.


Route Operations:
•    Coordinate route coverage for absences, vacations, and open routes.
•    Ensure drivers are prepared to service multiple routes and customer accounts.
•    Monitor route performance, customer service, and operational efficiency.
•    Collaborate with Operations and Sales teams to support business objectives.

Safety & Compliance:
•    Enforce company safety policies and DOT regulations.
•    Conduct safety training and monitor compliance requirements.
•    Review vehicle inspections and driver documentation.
•    Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions as needed.

Administrative Responsibilities:
•    Maintain training records, evaluations, and compliance documentation.
•    Track key performance metrics related to training, safety, and productivity.
•    Prepare reports and communicate progress to management.
•    Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and workforce planning efforts.

Daily Duties:
•    Conduct daily meetings and training sessions.
•    Assign and coordinate route coverage.
•    Perform ride-alongs and field coaching.
•    Monitor route performance and customer satisfaction.
•    Review safety compliance and vehicle inspections.
•    Provide feedback and support to drivers.
•    Resolve operational and customer issues.
•    Update training records and performance reports.
•    Partner with Operations and Sales leaders on staffing and development needs.

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, Logistics, Operations, or related field preferred.
•    3+ years of experience in route operations, transportation, delivery, or route sales.
•    2+ years of leadership, training, or supervisory experience.
•    Experience developing employees in a customer-facing environment.
•    Knowledge of route operations, customer service, DOT regulations, and safety standards.
•    Strong leadership, coaching, communication, and problem-solving skills.
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Office and route management software.
•    Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
