Job Summary
The Director of Solutions Engineering is responsible for building and leading the Solutions Engineering function within Compass Digital. This role focuses on creating scalable processes, foundational tools, and best practices that ensure consistency, efficiency, and excellence in technical presales across the organization. The Director serves as a strategic leader and mentor for the Solutions Engineer (SE) team, ensuring seamless collaboration with Digital Strategy, Product, and Delivery to drive successful client outcomes and solution adoption.
Core Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Strategy
- Design and implement the foundational structure of the Solutions Engineering function, including workflows, engagement models, and documentation standards.
- Define KPIs, success metrics, and reporting for SE performance and impact.
- Create a scalable operating model to support strategy teams across business sectors.
- Develop tools, templates, and documentation to drive consistency across all technical presales activities.
Team Management & Enablement
- Lead, coach, and develop the Solutions Engineer team, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.
- Establish a knowledge-sharing framework for continuous team enablement.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and professional development of SEs.
- Ensure SE alignment with strategy, sales, product, and delivery functions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with DSMs to align technical solutions with client goals and operational realities.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Delivery to ensure solutions are feasible, scalable, and aligned to roadmap priorities.
- Provide field insights and solution trends to influence product strategy.
Process Optimization & Tooling
- Own CPQ strategy and tool development to support accurate pricing, quoting, and SOW generation.
- Standardize demo environment development, maintenance, and access across product lines.
Technical & Business Acumen
- Deep expertise in enterprise architecture, APIs, integrations, and platform configuration.
- Experience with CPQ platforms, effort estimation, and solution packaging tools.
- Proficient in demo environment setup and managing proof-of-concept environments.
Client Engagement & Executive Support
- Serve as an executive-level technical resource for complex sales engagements.
- Provide coaching and support for SEs during high-stakes client meetings and demos.
- Influence enterprise clients and executive stakeholders with strategic technical insights
Qualifications
- 8+ years in technical presales, solutions architecture, or enterprise consulting.
- 3+ years in a leadership role managing technical presales or solutions engineering teams.
- Proven success building programs or teams from the ground up.
- Demonstrated experience working across strategy, product, and engineering functions.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or equivalent preferred.
