Job Description

 

  • Compass Group’s Payroll Services team is seeking a Learning & Development Intern to support training initiatives within our corporate payroll organization. This 10‑week internship provides graduate‑level students the opportunity to apply instructional design and adult learning principles in a corporate environment.
  • The intern will partner with the Payroll Training team to support onboarding programs, develop learning materials, and assist with training initiatives designed to improve employee knowledge, performance, and retention.
  • This internship is ideal for students pursuing advanced degrees in Instructional Design, Curriculum & Instruction, Learning Technologies, Adult Education, Organizational Learning, or related disciplines who are interested in applying learning science principles in a corporate setting.


  

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Partner with the Payroll Training team to support onboarding and training programs for new payroll associates.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather information and assist with the development of instructional materials, job aids, and training content.
  • Apply adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to enhance learning experiences.
  • Assist in developing training documentation, presentation materials, and learning resources for instructor‑led and virtual learning environments.
  • Support the evaluation of training effectiveness through surveys, feedback, and analysis of learning outcomes.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to training programs including scheduling, attendance tracking, and participant communication.
  • Contribute ideas for improving learning programs and identifying opportunities to enhance employee development

 

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Instructional Design, Curriculum & Instruction, Learning Technologies, Adult Education, Organizational Learning / Learning & Development, Learning Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design principles, and learning methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and subject matter experts.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Coursework or academic experience in instructional design models (ADDIE, SAM, etc.).
  • Coursework in adult learning theory, curriculum development, or learning technologies.
  • Previous teaching, facilitation, tutoring, or training experience is a plus.
  • Experience developing instructional materials such as lesson plans, job aids, or presentations is a plus.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

 

Program Notes

  • This internship is part of Compass Group’s 10‑week Corporate Internship Program and offers hands‑on experience supporting learning initiatives within a corporate payroll environment.
  • The position is hybrid and requires three days onsite at Compass Group Headquarters in Charlotte, NC and two days working remotely.
