Job Summary:

Compass Group, the world’s leading contract foodservice company, is hiring a Senior Developer for the Accounting Services Business Intelligence and Projects (BIP) team at its North America headquarters in Charlotte, NC. Operating at a Principal Engineer level, this role leads large-scale automation and transformation strategic initiatives.

The role centers on two dimensions: First, automating BIP’s internal development and operations (DevOps) processes to boost BIP efficiency and service quality; and second, automating accounting processes to streamline financial workflows and support strategic initiatives such as major ERP and ERP-adjacent application implementations.  Moving/transforming both areas beyond manual effort toward Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven automation and self-service solutions that enhance speed, accuracy, and scalability.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver impactful strategic projects, reporting directly to senior leadership.
  • Exercise independent judgment and technical authority in architecting solutions for strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to define project vision, scope, and success criteria.
  • Analyze and understand user requirements and business processes, ensuring they are incorporated into software designs and code.
  • Design, develop, and maintain both new and existing code for automation and transformation initiatives.
  • Leverage AI technologies to enhance automation, analytics/reporting for BIP DevOps and accounting processes
  • Architect and manage solutions using Snowflake or other cloud-based storage platforms for scalable data management.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers, setting technical directions and standards for strategic initiatives.
  • Perform extensive software testing, debugging, and validation procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software bugs in a timely manner, updating documentation as necessary.
  • Update existing applications to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve performance.
  • Participate in Agile Scrum software development, and daily standups to ensure quick iterations and fast delivery.
  • Develop strong relationships within Accounting Services and the broader Compass organization.
  • Identify, evaluate, and drive adoption of emerging technologies that can enhance automation, efficiency, and service delivery.
  • Continuously learn and innovate to stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration to strengthen team capabilities.

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s in Accounting or MBA a plus).

Professional Experience

  • 5+ years in software product development.
  • Experience operating at a Principal Engineer or equivalent level with a track record of delivering strategic projects.
  • Proven experience collaborating across functions (Accounting, Finance, IT, Operations) to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills; ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Technical Expertise

  • Enterprise Applications: Expert-level proficiency with accounting-based systems, specifically SAP S4/HANA and ECC.
  • Programming & Development: C#, ASP.NET, .NET Core framework; experience with both front-end (XHTML, PowerApps) and back-end development.
  • Data & Platforms: Hands-on experience with Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, and other cloud-based data platforms.
  • Databases: SQL Server, database design and optimization, ETL/ELT processes; ability to create and maintain SQL, Python, legacy VB, and Access solutions.
  • Automation & AI: Robotic process automation (e.g., PowerShell, Power Automate), AI-driven business solutions, scripting for process efficiency.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Advanced reporting with Power Query, Power BI, and Excel; experience with large and complex datasets.

Methodologies & Tools

  • Experience with Agile Scrum development practices.
  • Proficiency with Azure DevOps for CI/CD and workflow management.
