Job Summary
The Dock & Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing all purchasing activities and dock operations at the airport loading facility. This role ensures timely procurement of goods, accurate inventory management, and efficient material handling while maintaining compliance with safety, security, and quality standards. The position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage purchasing processes for food, beverage, printing products, and other operational supplies
- Communicate with vendors and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate deliveries
- Verify shipments and ensure products received match purchase orders
- Maintain accurate inventory records using Excel and other software tools
- Oversee dock operations, including loading/unloading, material handling, and equipment use
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
- Train and supervise dock staff on proper handling procedures and equipment operation
- Prepare and review reports related to inventory, purchasing trends, and dock performance
- Coordinate with airport operations to meet strict timelines and security requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or higher in Business, Supply Chain, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing and/or dock operations
- Strong knowledge of purchasing procedures and inventory control
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and inventory management systems
- ServSafe certification highly desirable
Physical Requirements
- Material Handling: Regular lifting, carrying, and moving of cartons, bags, cylinders, boxes, crates, drums, bottles, kegs and similar items
- Tools & Equipment: Frequent use of pallet jacks, carts, dollies, shrink-wrap tubes, and loading dock
- Physical Movements: Requires sitting, standing, walking, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, carrying, bending at the waist, reaching, and lifting above and below waist level
- Heavy Lifting: Must be able to lift, set down, slide, or move items unassisted weighing up to and exceeding 80 pounds
- Manual Dexterity: Regular use of hands and fingers for typing, grasping, and handling objects; includes repetitive wrist, hand, and finger motions
Safety & Compliance
- Must adhere to OSHA standards, airport security protocols, and company safety policies at all times
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety shoes, gloves, and high-visibility apparel
- Maintain compliance with TSA regulations for secure areas and cargo handling
- Conduct regular safety inspections of dock equipment and storage areas
- Report and document all incidents, near misses, and hazards promptly
- Participate in mandatory safety training and emergency response drills
- Ensure all staff follow lockout/tagout procedures and safe lifting techniques
- Maintain compliance with hazardous material handling and disposal regulations
