Job Summary:
Compass Group USA is seeking a Technical Privacy Engineer to join our growing Data Privacy & Compliance team. This role bridges the gap between privacy compliance and technology implementation, ensuring that privacy principles are embedded into systems, applications, and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with software development, data architecture, and IT security teams to operationalize privacy requirements across the enterprise.
Responsibilities:
- Privacy Technical Resource:
- Collaborate with application developers, data engineers, legal team members, and hardware teams to integrate privacy controls into systems and workflows.
- Implement technical solutions that enforce data minimization, encryption, retention, deletion, and secure data lifecycle management.
- Compliance Enablement:
- Translate U.S. privacy laws (e.g., CCPA, CPRA, VCDPA) into actionable technical requirements.
- Support compliance with major privacy and infosec frameworks for consumer and employee health data and other sector-specific regulations.
- Help maintain data inventories and mapping for structured and unstructured data across platforms.
- Incident Response & Security Alignment:
- Partner with cybersecurity teams to address privacy-related incidents and breaches.
- Ensure alignment between privacy requirements and security standards.
- Coordinate with cyber risk teams to provide responses to client infosec and privacy questionnaires.
- Training & Advocacy:
- Provide technical guidance and training to engineering and product teams on privacy best practices.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Data Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in privacy engineering, data protection, or technical compliance roles.
- Proficiency in data architecture, APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Familiarity with secure coding practices and privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs).
- Regulatory Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of U.S. state privacy laws; HIPAA experience preferred.
- Bonus: Knowledge of GLBA, FERPA, and global frameworks (GDPR).
- Certifications:
- CIPP/US, CIPT, or similar technical privacy certifications preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical teams.
- Ability to translate complex technical privacy concepts for diverse teams.
