Job Summary
The Director of Internal Communications is a passionate, creative, and strategic leader based at Levy’s Home Office in Chicago. Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this individual is a communications all-rounder/generalist responsible for contributing to the continued development of Levy’s Internal Communications strategy, leveraging the entire communications mix including all internal channels, team member and change communications, and executive communications. The Internal Communications Director will partner with functional leaders and executives across the organization to help build an engaging, compelling, and memorable narrative that can be driven internally.
The successful candidate must be a team player who is comfortable being known as a jack-of-all-trades. The right candidate must have experience in internal communications, writing executive communication, and experience with cross digital, print and video to help further our storytelling capabilities, shape our internal communication channels and strategies, and offer strategic counsel to our leaders and internal business partners. This individual also plays a key leadership role in Levy Cares, Levy’s charitable arm.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of the internal communications strategy and development and execution of the internal communication plan to reach internal audiences in impactful ways.
- Create and manage a monthly internal content calendar, including internal Home Office email campaigns, that aligns with communications and engagement strategy, company initiatives, brand standards, and core values.
- Provide strategic counsel and communications expertise to help internal business partners bring their programs and initiatives to life using the appropriate communications methods and channels.
- Work closely with brand and creative team to maintain templates and materials used in internal communications for a cohesive brand look and feel.
- Bring a creative, fresh perspective to how we communicate across all channels, including written and visual communications.
- Manage, evaluate, and recommend suggestions to improve existing internal communications channels, specifically email communication, internal executive communication, company intranet, company-wide quarterly meetings, internal podcasts, and internal leadership summits.
- Lead relationships with 3rd parties responsible for supporting internal communications channels and efforts.
- Manage content and calendar for Company intranet and serve as additional website editor.
- Build, maintain, and continually improve measurement tools to provide senior leadership a real-time look at effectiveness of internal communication tools, and adjust strategy as a result of analysis and input.
- Prepare leaders for speaking and panels as part of large-scale internal information sharing, development, and storytelling opportunities.
- Assist with internal response to crisis situations as an active participant on crisis response calls.
- Build a culture of internal storytelling that celebrates our people, shares wins, delivers key information, and grows the adoption of Levy Culture across all locations.
- Partners with operational leadership and department heads to develop strategies to improve internal communication through operational teams.
- Manage Levy’s charitable arm, Levy Cares, building internal effective two-way communication and storytelling to drive engagement and impact.
- Administer Levy Cares recognition program, to further internal awareness of Levy Cares and encourage corporate volunteerism and giving.
- Manage internal communication budget.
- All other responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Qualification
- At least five years of relevant work experience in internal communications, digital communications, public relations, or journalism
- Experience creating both written and visual content across multiple platforms, including websites, social media, email and video
- Ability to interact and advise C-level executives on communications strategy and execution
- Comfortable with change; able to be flexible and agile in a constantly transforming environment
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field
- A passion for telling stories that drive employee engagement
- Strong project management skills with the ability to plan and execute projects strategically and tactically
- Possess an entrepreneurial mentality
