- Act as a subject matter expert for payroll & labor compliance within the United Center operation.
Work Schedule
- Flexible work schedule required based on event activity, payroll processing deadlines, & business needs.
- Monday–Friday Event Days: Typical schedule is from approximately 9:00 AM through employee check-in typically 5:30 PM.
- Monday–Friday Non-Event Days: Standard schedule is 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
- Payroll Close Weekend: Expected to work a half-day shift on either Saturday or Sunday during payroll close periods.
- Schedule may vary based on payroll deadlines, operational needs, & special events at the United Center.
Job Summary
The Sr Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll operations for Levy employees at the United Center, within a unionized environment. This role ensures accurate, timely, & compliant payroll processing & risk management related to workplace injuries & labor compliance. The Senior Payroll Manager partners closely with Operations, HR, Finance, Home Office & Compass Headquarters to maintain compliance with collective bargaining agreements, federal & state labor laws, & company policies.
- Manage payroll processing for large-scale hourly union & non-union employees.
- Ensure payroll accuracy related to union contracts, including wages, overtime, premiums, differentials, benefits contributions, & dues.
- Interpret & apply collective bargaining agreements to payroll practices & resolve payroll-related labor questions.
- Oversee timekeeping systems, audits, corrections, & approvals in partnership with operations leadership.
- Process payroll deductions, adjustments, retroactive pay, bonuses, garnishments, verifications of employment & employment status changes.
- Prepare & reconcile payroll reports; partner with Finance on labor reporting & budget tracking.
- Ensure compliance with FLSA, Illinois labor laws, & internal payroll controls.
- Guidance to managers on labor, timekeeping & payroll compliance
- Serve as a point of contact for employees & managers regarding payroll, pay discrepancies, & compensation questions.
Risk Management
- Support workplace injury reporting, including coordinating documentation & communication with HR, Operations managers, Home Office & Compass Risk Management.
- Assist in tracking injury-related payroll impacts such as missed shifts & modified duty.
- Support reasonable suspicion processes related to potential on-the-job impairment, including documentation coordination & compliance with company policy & union agreements.
- Partner with location Loss Prevention Coordinators, HR, Operations & Compass Risk Management team to ensure consistent handling, documentation related to injury & reasonable suspicion situations.
Process Improvement
- Continuously evaluate payroll practices for efficiency, accuracy, & compliance.
- Train on payroll policies, union pay rules, & timekeeping best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
- Proficient computer skills.
- 5+ years of payroll management experience required, preferably in a unionized environment.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll laws, wage & hour regulations, & collective bargaining agreements.
- High attention to detail with the ability to manage complex, high-volume payrolls.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with union representatives, managers, & leadership.
