Job Summary

The Assistant General Manager partners with the General Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a medium- to large-volume food service account. This role is responsible for delivering exceptional hospitality, leading and developing associates, maintaining operational excellence, and ensuring outstanding food quality and guest satisfaction.

 

As a hands-on leader, the Assistant General Manager helps drive financial performance, supports client relationships, and fosters a positive team culture while ensuring the operation consistently exceeds expectations. This position is ideal for an experienced hospitality professional who enjoys leading teams, developing talent, and creating exceptional dining experiences.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Assist in leading the daily operations of a medium- to large-volume food service account, ensuring exceptional service and operational excellence.

  • Supervise, coach, train, and develop hourly associates to build a high-performing team.

  • Partner with the General Manager to achieve financial goals, manage labor and operating expenses, and maintain budget performance.

  • Ensure food quality, presentation, food safety, and sanitation standards are consistently maintained.

  • Support purchasing, inventory management, and operational processes to maximize efficiency and control costs.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, guests, and internal partners through exceptional hospitality and communication.

  • Monitor daily operations and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, guest satisfaction, and overall performance.

  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety regulations, and workplace safety standards.

  • Assist with implementing company initiatives, operational programs, and special projects as assigned.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Two to four years of progressive food service or hospitality management experience.

  • Experience in corporate dining, restaurants, hotels, higher education, healthcare, conference centers, or other high-volume hospitality environments.

  • Strong operational leadership with experience in purchasing, inventory management, and cost controls.

  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets, labor, and operating expenses.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of food service operations, hospitality, and customer service.

  • Proven leadership, coaching, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Associate's degree in Hospitality, Business, Culinary Arts, or a related field preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

  • ServSafe Certification preferred.
