DIRECTOR OF ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES, HOSPITAL / HEALTHCARE

Reports to:  Systems Director, Environmental Services

Job Summary

The Director of Environmental Services is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of EVS operations across two acute care hospitals: one with 46 beds and the 2nd with 125 beds. This leader will oversee all housekeeping functions, ensuring a clean, safe, and compliant environment that supports exceptional patient care. The role requires strong operational oversight, financial management, and the ability to effectively lead teams across multiple locations while partnering closely with hospital leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Provide leadership and oversight of EVS operations across two hospital locations
  • Ensure both facilities maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and “inspection-ready” environment at all times in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Plan, organize, direct, and supervise daily departmental activities and workflows
  • Manage department budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure financial performance aligns with expectations
  • Lead, develop, and support frontline teams and management staff across both sites
  • Conduct regular team meetings and coordinate activities with nursing, clinical, and administrative departments
  • Foster strong relationships with hospital leadership and key stakeholders
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and performance standards
  • Drive continuous improvement in service quality, patient satisfaction, and operational efficiency
  • Ensure proper management of supplies, equipment, and departmental resources

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3–5+ years of EVS/Housekeeping leadership experience in a hospital or acute care setting
  • Proven experience managing EVS operations, ideally across multiple sites or departments
  • Strong financial acumen with P&L/budget management experience
  • Experience with regulatory surveys (e.g., Joint Commission) and maintaining compliance standards
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop talent, and drive performance
  • CHESP certification strongly preferred
  • Experience in contract-managed healthcare services
  • Strong customer service mindset and ability to build relationships across departments
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
