Cook

We are seeking a skilled, energetic, and team-oriented cook to join our culinary team at the George R. Brown Convention Center. This position is responsible for preparing high-quality food for conventions, trade shows, banquets, and special events in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate thrives under pressure, maintains exceptional food quality standards, and works effectively as part of a large culinary team.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes and presentation standards.
• Execute large-scale food production for banquets, concessions, and catered events.
• Maintain consistency, quality, and portion control during peak service periods.
• Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
• Properly store, label, and rotate food products following FIFO guidelines.
• Assist with prep work, inventory management, and station setup/breakdown.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain a clean and organized workstation at all times.
• Collaborate with chefs and team members to ensure timely event execution.
• Adapt quickly to changing event schedules and operational needs.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a cook in high-volume food service, hotel, banquet, convention center, stadium, or restaurant environment preferred.
• Culinary certification preferred and required to obtain food handlers certification.
• Knowledge of food preparation techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety standards.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
• Food Handler Certification required or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Abides by all Company policies and procedures including but not limited to:
  • The use of a medium weight cut gloves when handling or using knives, peelers, choppers, mandolins or cleaning a slicer.
  • The use of oven mitts, fryer gloves or steamer gloves when handling hot pans from ovens, warmers or steamtables.
  • The use of slip-resistant shoes and proper lifting techniques.
