ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF DINING SERVICES, HEALTHCARE

Salary: $75,000-79,000 per year

Other Forms of Compensation: Up to $2,500 annually 

Schedule: Full time; primarily Monday through Friday, 9am-5pm with rotating weekends.

Job Summary

As the Assistant Director of Dining Services, you will support the daily operations of food and nutrition services within a hospital environment. This role oversees multiple service areas, including the retail café, physician lounge, catering, and patient dining services. You will partner with department leadership to deliver exceptional food quality, patient satisfaction, and guest experience while leading and developing a high-performing team. Responsibilities include operational oversight, client relations, staff development, financial performance, and ensuring service excellence across all dining programs.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Support the day-to-day management of retail dining, physician dining, catering, and patient meal service operations.
  • Partner with the Executive Chef and leadership team to ensure high-quality food production, presentation, and service.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of innovative culinary and dining programs.
  • Promote outstanding patient, guest, and client satisfaction through exceptional service standards.
  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop frontline associates and supervisors.
  • Foster a positive team culture focused on engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor operational performance and support department financial goals, including labor, food cost, and budget management.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with hospital leadership, clinical partners, and clients.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, regulatory, and company standards.
  • Support special events, catering functions, and departmental initiatives as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications: 

  • 3-5 years of food service management experience preferably in healthcare dining, patient services, or hospital dining
  • Experience leading operations in healthcare, restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, higher education, military, or other large-scale food service environments.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop teams in a fast-paced setting.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and relationship-building skills.
  • Financial management experience, including budgeting, labor management, and cost controls.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to drive operational results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet-based systems
