Job Summary
The EVS & Facilities Management Assistant Director is responsible for the daily oversight and coordination of Environmental Services (EVS) and basic Facilities Operations within a small Critical Access Hospital environment. This hybrid leadership role ensures the hospital maintains a clean, safe, compliant, and operationally efficient environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Environmental Services Operations
• Direct and oversee daily housekeeping and environmental services activities.
• Ensure cleanliness standards meet Crothall, CMS, OSHA, CDC, and Joint Commission requirements.
• Conduct routine quality inspections of patient rooms, public areas, restrooms, offices, procedural spaces, and support areas.
• Support infection prevention initiatives including isolation cleaning, discharge cleaning, disinfection compliance, and HAI reduction practices.
• Monitor bed turnaround and discharge cleaning performance.
• Maintain floor care programs and oversee project cleaning activities.
Facilities Management Operations
• Coordinate routine maintenance activities and vendor services for hospital infrastructure and non-clinical systems.
• Monitor facility work orders and ensure timely completion of maintenance requests.
• Conduct routine environmental and safety rounds throughout the hospital campus.
• Assist with oversight of HVAC coordination, lighting systems, plumbing/electrical follow-up, life safety observations, and waste management programs.
• Support the Physical Environment PE compliance and survey readiness.
Leadership & Staff Management
• Supervise frontline EVS staff and coordinate facility support personnel as assigned.
• Conduct daily huddles, shift assignments, and operational briefings.
• Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, counseling, and performance evaluations.
• Ensure all associates complete required annual education, safety training, and competency validations.
• Maintain staffing schedules while controlling overtime and labor expenses.
Regulatory & Safety Compliance
• Assist hospital leadership with DNV, CMS, OSHA, infection prevention, and other relevant body readiness.
• Conduct documented quality assurance inspections and corrective action follow-up.
• Maintain accurate records related to safety inspections, training completion, equipment logs, cleaning audits, and regulatory compliance.
Customer Service & Hospital Collaboration
• Maintain strong working relationships with nursing leadership, infection prevention, administration, and department managers.
• Respond to service requests and operational concerns with urgency and professionalism.
• Support patient experience initiatives including HCAHPS cleanliness goals.
Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in Healthcare, Facilities Management, Business, or related field preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in healthcare EVS, facilities, hospitality, or healthcare support services.
• Experience in hospital operations strongly preferred.
• CHESP certification preferred.
• Healthcare Facilities or Safety certification preferred.
• OSHA or Physical Environment training preferred.
