Role Summary:

The Food, Workplace Safety & Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day implementation and management of the company’s food and workplace safety, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance programs. These responsibilities include allergen control, food defense, injury prevention, chemical control, traceability, non-conformance procedures, and compliance with government, OSHA, and client requirements. This position works cross-functionally with operations, production, and utility teams to ensure adherence to occupational health and food safety protocols, quality standards, and continuous improvement goals.

 

Responsibilities: 

Food Safety & Quality Compliance:

  • Cultivate team expertise and professional growth, guiding staff toward comprehensive adherence to Compass, regulatory, and third-party safety standards while collaborating with culinary and administrative leadership.

  • Develop team activities and perform active managerial support.

  • The manager will establish common standards, conduct risk based site visits, analyze trends across locations, verify corrective actions, consult and provide reports to operational leadership. 

  • Direct the advancement and execution of the CPU Food Safety Plan, GMPs, and sanitation protocols, providing rigorous oversight of pest control and facility hygiene verification tasks.

  • Execute internal audits and hazard assessments to ensure timely mitigation of risks across the production lifecycle, from intake and storage to thermal processing, transport, and documentation.

  • Establish and manage robust quality management systems, ensuring all operational activities remain in strict alignment with established food safety and quality assurance frameworks.

  • Maintain compliance with Regulatory Agencies and client requirements for the facility.

  • Act as a contact for regulators and Third Party Auditors, responding to concerns and ensuring prompt resolution of non-conformances.

  • Manage duties related to on time reporting  and providing time of completion of task and corrective actions 

  • Actively engage and track critical violations , CAPA Temperature compliance and act as person in charge for assigned tasks.

  • Provide cushing and training to people in designated area

  • Alignment with Food Safety Compliance standards per Compass and regulatory.

  • Corrective actions for regulatory inspection and Third Party Audit violations.

Workplace Safety:

  • Model and reinforce Food Program Safety culture.

  • Support operations with workplace safety assessments and feedback.

  • Monitor associate behaviors and reinforce proper use of PPE as a preventative measure.

  • Incident Investigations: Support and lead investigations for foodborne illness complaints, allergen incidents, mislabeling, foreign objects/quality, and Associate injuries to determine Root Causes. 

    • Use CAPA to prevent occurrences and drive improvement.

    • Deliver written conclusions and recommendations to Operations and the Client.

  • Track trends and results, reporting out to Compass leadership.

Program Management:

  • Contribute to the management of key programs such as may be required, including but not limited to compliance tracking, internal audits, training in person and classroom, and record keeping.

  • Collaborate with contracted pest management services, ensuring corrective actions are implemented as needed.

  • Ensure the ongoing validation, trend analysis, and verification of required programs, such as TPHC and other variance approved processes.

  • Perform and track internal audits and assessments, reporting out trends.

Training & Development:

  • Co-lead training programs, ensuring employees are properly trained on food safety and quality assurance practices.

  • Support Learning and Development department as needed for the broader program

  • ServSafe instructor credential will be attained. 

  • Support various Champions groups to educate and enable operators in safety practices 

Continuous Improvement & Performance Tracking:

  • Track and report Key Performance Indicators for food safety and quality to ensure alignment with corporate goals and objectives.

  • Initiate and manage continuous improvement projects, addressing areas for improvement in food safety and quality management systems.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Participate in and lead food safety/quality meetings, fostering collaboration across teams with a focus on solutions, continuous improvement, and proactive problem-solving.

  • Ensure that product specifications and standards set by R&D and customers are met, addressing any deviations in a timely manner.

Recall & Non-Conformance Management:

  • Escalate and investigate product quality concerns.

  • Support the Vendor Relations team with rapid response to external vendor recalls.

 

 

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biological Sciences preferred.

  • CP-FS credential or ability to earn and maintain it.

  • HACCP certified and PCQI Certification preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency in Google Suite; basic computer skills and knowledge.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

  • Ability to accept instructions and task assignments while staying organized.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to clearly present information to diverse audiences and engage with a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Collaborative mindset, able to work independently or in a team, adapting to changing organizational and operational needs.

  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and drive solutions for continuous improvement.

  • ServSafe certification or equivalent.

  • OSHA certification preferred.
