Job Summary
The Utility Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation, and organization throughout kitchen areas, china room, and show floors at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. This role is essential to ensuring a safe, efficient, and professional environment during events, conventions, and daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all kitchen and food preparation areas in accordance with health and safety standards

Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware, and equipment

Organize and maintain the china room, ensuring proper handling and storage of china, glassware, and silverware
-
Keep show floors, back-of-house areas, and service corridors clean, orderly, and free of garbage and debris

Collect, remove, and properly dispose of trash, recycling, and compost materials
-
Assist with setup and breakdown of kitchen and service areas as needed for events

Follow all safety, sanitation, and operational procedures, including proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment

Support culinary and operations teams as needed to ensure smooth event execution
Qualifications:
-
Prior stewarding, dishwashing, or utility experience preferred
-
Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods
-
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
-
Knowledge of basic sanitation and safety practices (or willingness to learn)

Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
-
Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
Physical Requirements:

Prolonged standing and walking

Repetitive motions including lifting, bending, and pushing carts

Ability to work indoors and on show floors throughout the facility
