Job Summary
The Food Safety Sanitation Manager is responsible for overseeing and executing the facility’s sanitation programs to ensure a clean, safe, and compliant food production environment. This role ensures adherence to GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, FDA/USDA regulations, and company food safety standards. The manager leads sanitation personnel, verifies cleaning effectiveness, and partners with Quality, Maintenance, and Operations to prevent contamination risks.
Key Responsibilities
Sanitation Operations
• Supervise daily sanitation activities for production equipment, processing areas, and facility infrastructure
• Ensure sanitation procedures are executed according to SSOPs and established schedules
• Verify proper cleaning, sanitizing, and chemical usage to meet food safety and regulatory requirements
• Post sanitation inspections and document results
Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance
• Ensure compliance with GMP, HACCP, FDA/USDA, SQF/BRC, and customer audit requirements
• Identify and correct sanitation deficiencies, trends, and root causes
• Maintain accurate sanitation records, logs, and verification documentation
Team Leadership & Training
• Lead, schedule, and assign daily work for sanitation team members
• Train employees on sanitation procedures, chemical safety, PPE, and food safety expectations
• Enforce safety, hygiene, and sanitation policies consistently
• Conduct performance coaching, disciplinary actions, and skills development as needed
Equipment, Chemicals & Safety
• Ensure safe handling, storage, and usage of cleaning chemicals per SDS and company policy
• Coordinate with Maintenance to identify equipment issues impacting sanitation effectiveness
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA requirements
Qualifications Required
• High school diploma or GED
• 2–5 years of experience in food manufacturing sanitation
• Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred
• Working knowledge of GMPs, SSOPs, HACCP, and food safety regulations
• Ability to read and understand sanitation procedures and technical documentation
Preferred
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in food science, Biology, or related field
• Experience with SQF, BRC, or other GFSI certification schemes
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
• Ability to work in cold, wet, or confined environments
• Stand, walk, bend, and lift to 50 lbs.
• Use of PPE including gloves, goggles, boots, and protective clothing
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals and food processing equipment
