Job Summary

The Director of Patient Services is responsible for leading the Patient Food Services operations within a fast-paced acute care hospital in Phoenix, Arizona. This leadership role oversees the day-to-day management, development, and performance of the patient dining services team while ensuring exceptional patient satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The Director partners closely with hospital leadership to deliver high-quality patient meal services through effective team leadership, continuous process improvement, and efficient resource management.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the daily operations of Patient Food Services in accordance with organizational standards and contractual requirements.
  • Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop Patient Services Managers, Supervisors, and frontline team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability through performance management, employee development, and recognition.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory, safety, sanitation, and patient care standards.
  • Monitor team productivity, competency, documentation, and service quality using established performance metrics.
  • Partner with nursing and clinical teams to enhance the patient dining experience and support patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Conduct patient rounds and ensure members of the management team regularly engage with patients during their hospital stay.
  • Analyze operational performance and implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance service delivery.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, hospital leadership, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Hospitality Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive food service leadership experience, including at least two (2) years in a healthcare environment and one (1) year in a management role.
  • Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) or Registered Dietitian (RD) preferred.
  • ServSafe® Certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of patient dining operations, food quality, sanitation, regulatory compliance, food cost management, and service excellence.
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, team development, and performance management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, labor management, and operational reporting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business software applications.
