Job Summary
As the Director of Food & Nutrition Services in an acute care hospital setting, you will oversee all daily operations of the Food & Nutrition Services department, ensuring exceptional service and high‑quality nutrition support for patients, staff, and visitors. You will lead and develop a diverse team across culinary, clinical nutrition, retail, and procurement functions, while fostering strong client relationships and upholding Mercy’s core values of compassion, excellence, and hospitality.
This role supports an acute care hospital with a 65‑patient census, a room‑service dining model, a retail operation generating $1M annually, and a total managed volume of $2.5M.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, staff, guests, and clinical partners to ensure a positive dining and care experience.
- Partner with the Chef and leadership team to develop menus, enhance the room‑service program, and ensure consistently high‑quality food offerings.
- Lead and mentor associates across culinary, clinical nutrition, retail, and procurement functions.
- Manage all financial aspects of the department, including P&L performance, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulatory standards, food safety protocols, and hospital policies.
- Implement and support new culinary programs, service enhancements, and operational improvements.
- Drive a culture of hospitality, service excellence, and patient‑centered care aligned with Mercy’s mission.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Nutrition, Business, or Culinary Arts preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in foodservice operations, preferably in healthcare.
- Experience with high‑volume food production and catering is essential.
- Demonstrated success in managing budgets, financial performance, and operational KPIs.
- Strong leadership abilities with a people‑focused, customer‑service‑oriented approach.
- Culinary experience preferred but not required.
- Desire to grow within a leading, mission‑driven healthcare foodservice organization.
