Job Summary
The DBA (Database Administration) team plays a critical role in ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of database systems across the enterprise. The DBA team works hand in hand with all technology teams within the Enterprise Architecture and Shared Services Technology (EASST) division to support the goals of Compass Technology and Compass Group.
The Sr DBA II is the highest-level technical expert within the DBA team. This role is responsible for architecting, implementing, and optimizing the most complex and mission-critical database environments. The Sr DBA II acts as a subject matter expert, leads major projects, and sets technical direction for database technologies and best practices.
The DBA works as a member of the DBA team and is charged with understanding the goals/objectives of that team and how it supports those of the EASST division.
Responsibilities
- Architect and oversee the implementation of highly available, scalable, and secure database solutions.
- Lead the most complex performance tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization efforts.
- Set technical standards for database design, security, and operations.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement emerging database technologies and tools.
- Lead enterprise-scale database migrations, upgrades, and consolidations.
- Develop and enforce automation and DevOps practices for database management.
- Maintain advanced documentation and knowledge base for the team.
Experience and Qualifications
- Recognized subject matter expert in PostgreSQL - AWS RDS/Aurora.
- Proven track record of managing production databases in a high-availability environment.
- Demonstrated success in leading database projects and initiatives.
- Deep understanding of database internals, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
- Advanced understanding of AWS concepts.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of experience in building and maintaining complex, mission-critical production database systems in PostgreSQL
- Strong knowledge of working with DMS, CloudWatch, Performance/Database Insights, and other DB monitoring tools like PMM or Foglight
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Leadership and mentoring abilities.
- Positive attitude and solutions-oriented thinking
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
PREFERRED
- Advanced proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash).
- Experience with automation, DevOps, and CI/CD practices (CloudFormation, CDK, SSM).
- Experience with regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) in database management. PREFERRED
- AWS Certification pertaining to Databases.
- Experience with enterprise-scale database migration and consolidation.
- Experience with business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
