Job Summary
The General Manager of Events is responsible for managing events for Eventions on the Puget Sound campus, while leading the event planning team to provide the highest level of service to Microsoft clients. This role requires experience in Catering Sales, Event/Facility Management, and a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of event planning. The ideal candidate will possess strong strategic thinking, business and time management skills, and the initiative to evaluate issues and take appropriate action. Excellent communication, team leadership, and multitasking abilities are essential.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The General Manager of Events is responsible for managing & leading the events department managers along with indirect supervision of the planning associates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops departmental operating budgets within set parameters
- Develops & communicates all department processes & procedures to ensure high event management service levels
- Develops, oversees & reports on department budget, including utilization metrics
- Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and supervises functions and activities of the department.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders to establish, execute & present quarterly account performance indicators (KPI’s)
- Develop strategy to continue growth of Eventions production business
- Identifies critical issues & manages escalations from senior management & client to ensure concerns are resolved to client & management satisfaction
- Establishes and implements policies and procedures for departmental operations
- Performs all talent management functions for department, including establishing goals, monitoring & tracking performance, overseeing & evaluating training, performance evaluations & managing performance deficiencies
- Coordinates all space management changes with facility vendors, support teams & Microsoft clients
- Develops, communicates, implements, monitors and adjusts department strategy
- Remains well versed of industry standards & trends, integrating them where appropriate
- Demonstrates good communication skills with clients and other lines of business.
- Ensures proper staffing is in place for team.
- Maintains all safety requirements for staff members.
- Create an environment of innovations and continuous improvement
- Maintain high staff morale for all staff members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- BA in business, hospitality management or similar field, or Associates Degree and equivalent work experience
- Minimum 5 years as a manager of managers (e.g., Director or General Manager), with financial accountability & working with multiple teams (i.e. Finance, Marketing, Projects, etc.).
- Minimum of 7 years hospitality industry experience
- Experience in leading large, multi-faceted teams required.
- Ability to analyze customer needs & requests, think both strategically and tactically, business & time management skills, as well as the initiative & judgment to quickly evaluate issues, find alternatives & take appropriate courses of action.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong management and organizational skills
- Ability to manage stressful situations in a calm, courteous, and efficient manner
- Client Relations and customer service oriented
- Team leadership Abilities; Staffing Recruiting, Development and Relations
- Strong interpersonal skills, problem solving, financial, and analytical skills
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools
- Background and experience with Event Management tools (preferably USI)
