Position Title: ASSOCIATE ACOUSTIC CONSULTANT 

Salary: $70000 - $80000 / year

Other Forms of Compensation: 5% Bonus

Position Overview

Waveguide’s Associate Acoustics Consultant provides entry level support in the implementation of the acoustic department’s project delivery activities and initiatives. Your primary role will be to assist the firm’s acoustic consultants in executing and supporting individual projects. You may also be expected to represent Waveguide at client meetings. We are currently seeking qualified candidates for an immediate opening as an associate acoustic consultant. Remote / home-based work is anticipated as the primary workplace with up to 20% travel to project sites, project meetings or other corporate gatherings.

 

Preferred Location: Candidates residing on the West Coast are strongly preferred, with a particular preference for those located in Southern California.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in delivery of defined project tasks, including acoustic reports, drawing reviews/markups, recommendations, meeting preparation, and routine communications.
  • Support consultants in maintaining project documentation, status tracking, and issue logging.
  • Conduct acoustical measurements including environmental, background noise level, reverberation time and sound isolation measurements.
  • Participate in design coordination meetings and internal cross discipline reviews.
  • Participate in project tasks across multiple consulting disciplines (technology, acoustics, design coordination, and construction administration) to gain exposure to varied delivery models and project phases.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews and supervised site visits, documenting field conditions.
  • Pursue ongoing professional growth and development of technical skills.
  • Use AI tools responsibly in accordance with data protection and governance guidelines.

 

Role Qualifications

  • Relevant four-year university degree or higher in a relevant technical field (degree in engineering or science with a specialization in vibration and/or acoustics).
  • 1 to 3 years of professional acoustical consulting experience.
  • Hands on experience with acoustic instrumentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity of educational, commercial, and institutional building design and construction.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural, structural, MEP and sound masking drawings to support acoustics design development and coordination.
  • Proficiency in acoustical measurements including environmental, background noise level, reverberation time and sound isolation measurements.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of HVAC noise and vibration control for MEP systems.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge in acoustic calculations related to environmental noise, room acoustics and outdoor noise producing equipment.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in all MS Office applications and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Suitable environment for audio and video calls, 80+% remote work anticipated.  Minimal travel required (<20%, mainly for training and occasional staff meetings or project site reviews).
