Job Details

The Food Safety Manager (FSM) is part of the Quality Assurance Department’s Operations Compliance Support team, and provides support to Compass Group sectors in implementing and sustaining the corporate Quality Assurance program. The FSM is responsible for driving a strong food safety culture and influencing a behavior-based food safety management system within their assigned area. The FSM is the single point of contact for all food safety matter for the assigned sector(s) and is responsible for driving a strong food safety culture and influencing a behavior-based food safety management system within their assigned area. The manager will work to ensure that 3rd party food safety audits are thorough, consistent, and accurate. A mindset of continuous improvement and being results driven is critical to the success of this role. This position requires frequent travel so access to a major airport is required.

 

Job Summary

 

Responsibilities:

 

· Monitor, analyze and report on key performance metrics in order to identify and take action to reduce risk; including 3rd party food safety audit results, Food Safety Incident Rate, regulatory inspections, and HACCP data. Escalate risk promptly when needed.

· Communicate with and engage sector leadership in food safety performance reviews, share best practices, make recommendations, collaborate, and together, determine a plan of action to ensure improvement throughout the assigned sector(s). Keep sector leadership informed and “in the know” so food safety performance remains visible/top of mind.

· Partner with sector executive level management and their senior leadership teams to identify root causes of poor performance within lower performing units and teams, and support the development and execution of appropriate improvement plans. Drive accountability and monitor performance to ensure sustained improvement.

· As the Single Point of Contact, provide reliable, precise, and timely technical support of assigned sector business.

· Work cross functionally with internal stakeholders in assigned sectors, such as the Safety Team, Marketing, Communications, and Culinary to ensure alignment and to strengthen the food safety culture.

· Contribute to the success and Return on Investment (ROI) of the Compass Group 3rd party auditing program by ensuring that audits are accurate, thorough, and consistent. To include conducting shadow audits in the field.

· Contribute to and assist in the development, evaluation, improvement, and implementation of Compass Group’s food safety policies, procedures, standards, and initiatives.

· Maintain a high level of technical expertise and knowledge. Collect, review, and evaluate scientific data to make recommendations for food safety process improvements. Research food safety innovation and monitor industry landscape for food safety best practice, with the objective of simplification so that we make it easier to manage and execute HACCP/food safety on a daily basis.

· Monitor regulatory agency landscape for emerging concerns, consumer advisories, food safety alerts, proposed regulations, and similar public health and business-impact issues. Act as a liaison with regulatory officials proactively and reactively as necessary.

· Travel 65% as needed.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

· Bachelor’s degree in a science discipline.

· Minimum of Certified Professional-Food Safety (CP-FS) credential required; Registered Sanitarian/Environmental Health Specialist (RS/REHS) or equivalent credential preferred.

· Minimum of five years of experience in a dedicated food-safety support role, with regulatory enforcement and food service industry experience strongly preferred.

· Strong technical knowledge of retail food safety, FDA Model Food Code, and HACCP.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

· Excellent time management and prioritization skills.

· Ability to engage internal stakeholders across multifunctional teams through effective communication and compelling arguments.

· Intellectual curiosity a must.

· Energetic, enthusiastic, and self-motivated. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
