Job Summary
Join Chartwells Higher Education as our Resident District Manager at St. John Fisher University in Rochester, N.Y. We're searching for a dedicated professional who will lead a team committed to providing high-quality dining experiences and outstanding service. In this role you will have the opportunity to advise, lead, and collaborate in the daily operations of our large, multi-unit food service program, including our diverse catering operations. The successful candidate will join a strong, experienced team of front-of-house and culinary professionals who have proudly achieved the #1 ranking in Niche for NY state.
The Resident District Manager (RDM) manages the overall dining program including the operational, catering, and culinary teams and serves as the liaison between Chartwells and the University. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans, financial oversight , and the cultivation of strong client relationships to fulfill our mission to nourish the campus community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads, manages, and inspires a high performing team to deliver excellent service to the students, client, and community
- Cultivates strong relationships with the client and key campus stakeholders
- Achieves key performance indicators (service excellence, employee engagement, safety, etc.)
- Ensures all dining technologies including POS system and student online ordering systems, and as well as meal plan management, align with the overall business strategy and ensures the team is proficient in their use
- Fosters a culture of transparency, understanding, education, safety, and accountability
- Leads staff development including conducting performance evaluations, creating succession planning, and maintaining a full understanding of all roles within operation
- Stays current on innovative dining trends and actively participates in conversations with strategic peers about best practices in higher education dining management
- Makes data-driven decisions, actively incorporating input from the team and the client.
- Responsible for the financial results for the account, and works with leadership to ensure accuracy for reporting, forecasting, and budgeting processes
- Oversees all functional areas of operation, including but not limited to safety, marketing, nutrition, and culinary
- Ensures adherence to local, state, federal and company policies, and conducts unit audits to ensure conformance for key areas (e.g. food storage, sanitation)
- Maintains compliance with USDA regulations and guidance for all applicable meal and retail programs, along with completing all required reporting on time
- Adheres to contract guidelines, the Health Department’s regulations, company standards, and expectations of food quality, freshness, and presentation.
- Ensures consistent and fair administration of all policies and procedures
- Represents Chartwells team within the district and community; May serve on district leadership team
- Attends key client and community events as necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and minimum of three (3) years of management experience, preferably in food service or hospitality management – preferably with higher education dining experience
- Is well-versed in all aspects of foodservice management with a proven track record of success
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, mobile technology and POS software
- Has proven track record of leading a business and a team, strong customer service, and good business and financial acumen
- Demonstrates strong initiative, critical thinking, integrity, and sound judgement
- Possesses excellent communication skills (listening, written, and verbal), along with proven multi-tasking, prioritization, and organizational abilities
- Champions the inclusion mindset, and is proactive, positive, professional, and resilient
