Position Overview:
The Director of Retail Operations is a strategic leader responsible for the end-to-end management and performance of all Rank + Rally retail locations, including e-commerce channels and stadium-based operations. This role leads the vision, execution, and growth of the retail program by driving revenue, enhancing customer experience, overseeing inventory and merchandising standards, and cultivating a results-driven team culture.
This position serves as the primary liaison between retail operations and the client, ensuring seamless coordination of activations, events, and store initiatives across all locations. The Director is accountable for delivering against P&L objectives, maximizing profitability, and implementing scalable systems and processes that support operational excellence and brand integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
People & Guest-First Leadership
- Actively lead from the floor during activations, game days, and peak business hours—setting the tone for service, team energy, and accountability.
- Build a high-performance team culture rooted in trust, respect and open communication.
- Champion guest-centric retail by coaching and inspiring staff to exceed service expectations and foster brand loyalty.
- Mentor and develop store leaders and supervisors to become strong, autonomous leaders who elevate team performance and guest satisfaction.
Strategic Leadership & Financial Management:
- Own the financial performance of all retail locations—from top-line sales to gross margin—through effective planning, forecasting, and analysis.
- Manage all aspects of the P&L, including approval of expenses, labor management, and cost of sales oversight.
- Review business trends regularly with retail leadership and implement strategies to drive revenue, reverse negative sales trends, and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
- Partner with clients on CapEx approvals and strategic investment opportunities.
Retail Operations & Merchandising:
- Lead all aspects of retail execution including buying strategy, inventory management, merchandising, visual presentation, and POS system utilization (e.g., Retail Pro, Retail Cloud).
- Ensure accurate receiving of all inventory, including quantity, pricing, ticketing, and barcoding across all locations.
- Maintain consistent visual standards and product presentation aligned with the brand, customer expectations, and location-specific needs.
- Oversee the execution of promotional and event-specific merchandising plans.
Team Development & Culture:
- Hire, train, and develop a high-performing management team and hourly staff, fostering a culture of accountability, guest-centric service, and continuous improvement.
- Recognize strong performance and manage performance issues with fairness and clarity utilizing company tools and resources.
- Facilitate regular communication and training across teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and customer service standards.
Client Relations & Event Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact with the client for all product buying/liquidation, retail activations, special events, and high-visibility opportunities.
- Oversee & participate in retail support for concerts, sporting events, and off-season conventions—including stand setup, inventory transfers, sales reporting, and post-event analysis.
- Coordinate store-specific events and promotional activations to maximize impact and engagement.
Operational Excellence & Compliance:
- Ensure all safety protocols, SOPs, and maintenance issues are managed proactively and in compliance with corporate standards.
- Execute operational reporting, inventory counts, month-end close, and analytics to inform decision-making and identify areas for optimization.
- Lead retail design and layout planning for new builds and activations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of retail leadership experience as a General Manager or Multi-Unit Manager; stadium, arena, or entertainment venue experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in buying, planning and product allocation, retail operations, inventory systems, merchandising strategy, and team development.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, P&L, and labor costs.
- Technologically proficient with systems like Retail Pro, Retail Cloud, and scheduling tools such as WFM.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and maintain flexibility across varied event schedules.
- Open availability and willingness to work traditional and non-traditional hours (including nights, weekends and applicable holidays).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for 8–10+ hours per day and maneuver through stores, stockrooms, and back-of-house areas.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a semi-regular basis.
- Frequent reaching, bending, and physical activity consistent with retail operations.

Job Summary

As Director of Retail, you’ll lead Rank and Rally’s operations for the San Jose Earthquakes, overseeing everything from stadium merchandise to brand strategy. You will build high-performing teams, manage inventory, and deliver a seamless, high-energy fan experience with every sale.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Retail Management, or related field

5+ years of leadership in retail, preferably in sports or entertainment venues

Proficiency with POS systems, merchandising tools, and inventory software

Strong background in staff leadership and sales strategy

Familiarity with vendor relations and licensing standards
