Position Title: Sous Chef - SCAD 

Salary:  $55,000 - $57,000 / year

Job Summary

Join the culinary team at the Savannah College of Art and Design and help deliver an exceptional dining experience for a vibrant campus community known for creativity, innovation, and excellence. We are seeking a passionate and driven Sous Chef to support daily culinary operations across a fast-paced, high-volume dining environment.

 

In this role, you will partner closely with the Executive Chef and culinary leadership team to oversee food production, ensure quality and consistency, and lead back-of-house operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong culinary skills, a commitment to food safety and hospitality, and a passion for mentoring and developing teams.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations, food production, and service execution
  • Support menu planning, recipe development, and seasonal culinary initiatives
  • Coordinate and participate in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of high-quality food offerings
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health department standards
  • Maintain consistency in food quality, freshness, and presentation standards
  • Assist with ordering, inventory management, and cost control initiatives
  • Support implementation of new culinary programs and promotions in partnership with culinary and marketing teams
  • Train, coach, and motivate culinary team members to maintain operational excellence
  • Help manage production schedules, prep lists, and production sheets to support efficient kitchen operations
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and professional kitchen culture
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of culinary experience, including at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Experience in high-volume food service environments such as restaurants, hotels, higher education, healthcare, corporate dining, or related operations
  • Strong knowledge of culinary trends, food quality standards, sanitation, safety, and cost controls
  • Proven leadership, coaching, and team development skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
  • Experience with inventory management and production planning
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • ServSafe Certification or local Department of Health certification preferred
  • Associate degree in Culinary Arts or related field preferred
