Job Summary
The Sr. Director, Design & Construction leads the strategic planning and execution of SSC's construction project management function. This role is responsible for overseeing Project Managers and construction operations while ensuring exceptional service delivery, innovation, and cross-functional collaboration. The Sr. Director plays a critical role in driving sustainable, scalable outcomes across design and construction initiatives, contributing directly to client satisfaction, retention, and new business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead project communication strategy between field teams and executive leadership, ensuring timely and effective updates.
- Coordinate project budgets, schedules, and interdependencies to ensure execution aligns with client expectations and company objectives.
- Act as the main point of contact between internal collaborators, external vendors, and client representatives to achieve impactful construction results.
- Manage and develop a high-performing project management team, providing mentorship, performance coaching, and professional growth opportunities.
- Contribute to bringing to bear planning efforts, demonstrating construction initiatives to support like-for-like growth, client retention, and expansion opportunities.
- Foster innovation in balanced and scalable development, demonstrating LEED, WELL, and modern construction practices to position SSC as a leader in facility innovation.
- Foster and nurture positive relationships with internal leadership, clients, and cross-functional teams to support strategic goals.
- Lead negotiations and strategy for vendor partnerships, purchasing, and bidding to optimize efficiency and cost.
- Model a culture of accountability, ownership, and excellence in project execution, while remaining flexible in managing priorities and timelines.
- Champion process consistency and continuous improvement, ensuring team members follow structured yet agile project management practices.
Perferred Qualitficiations
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Business, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
- 7+ years of demonstrated success in construction/project management, ideally within the higher education sector.
- Proficient in Microsoft Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, Outlook, and other project management platforms.
- Strong background in facilities operations, with expertise in Design-Build development and architectural/engineering coordination.
- Ability to manage complex project schedules, budgets, and cross-functional communication while adjusting to dynamic priorities.
- Working knowledge of custom millwork fabrication; AutoCAD/REVIT proficiency and understanding of LEED/WELL practices are a plus.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with a high level of ownership and attention to quality.
