DIRECTOR, DINING SERVICES - Vassar Public Schools, Vassar, MI

Salary:  $55,000-$60,000

Other Forms of Compensation: Annual bonus incentive up to 15%, Health Benefits, 401K, PTO

Job Summary

Vassar Public Schools, located in Vassar, MI. is seeking a high‑energy, culinary‑focused Director of Dining Services to lead food service operations across two buildings serving 725 students. You’ll oversee ten Chartwells associates and support breakfast, lunch, snack, supper, and summer programs.

This is a long‑tenured district with a very positive relationship, making it a great place to begin or grow your career while bringing new culinary excitement to the program.

We are seeking a hands‑on, people‑centered leader who will be in the kitchen daily, actively running and supporting operations. This role requires strong communication skills and at least two years of food service management experience; K‑12 experience is a plus. The ideal candidate is engaging, approachable, and comfortable working side‑by‑side with teams to ensure smooth daily operations while creating a warm, welcoming cafeteria environment for students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire our team of frontline associates.
  • Drive critical initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction and increase profitability.
  • Recruit, train, and develop top talent within the organization.
  • Oversees the annual budget and control costs.
  • Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, customers, and associates. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of a dining service operation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Food Services/Management/Hospitality/Culinary/Nutrition preferred, not mandatory.
  • Two plus years of foodservice management experience
  • Knowledge of high-volume food production is preferred.
  • Previous P&L accountability or contract-managed services experience.
  • Exceptional leadership skills. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
