Job Summary

We’re excited to open a new café location within a Smithsonian Museum, and we’re looking for a Café Manager to help bring this concept to life. In this role, you’ll guide daily operations, support a welcoming guest experience, and lead a team that reflects our commitment to hospitality and learning. You’ll collaborate closely with museum partners and Restaurant Associates leadership to build a smooth, guest‑focused operation from day one.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Recruit, train, and coach café associates to support a positive, team‑first culture
  • Oversee day‑to‑day café operations, ensuring an engaging and efficient guest experience
  • Plan, market, and execute special events and café promotions
  • Maintain high standards for sanitation, safety, food quality, and cleanliness
  • Support responsible financial operations, working within budget and finding new ways to strengthen business performance
  • Ensure accurate cash handling procedures and equipment use
  • Collaborate with internal teams and museum stakeholders to support events and café needs
  • Contribute to opening processes and other responsibilities that support a successful new location

What We’re Looking For

  • 1–3 years of experience in food service or hospitality environments such as restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, healthcare, or military dining
  • Familiarity with cash handling and food service equipment
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and other daily operational systems
  • ServSafe or Department of Health food safety certification
  • Experience supporting or opening new restaurants, cafés, or high‑volume food service concepts
  • A collaborative leadership approach with an interest in developing teams and shaping a welcoming environment
