General Description:

You will be working closely with the leaders and team members in Warhawk Dining at UW-Whitewater and other leaders of the university developing skills and competencies to understand what is needed to be successful in the world of sustainability. You will gain valuable experience in the following areas: operations, marketing, administration, guest services, problem resolution, planning and implementation of innovation, and client relationship skills. This internship involves hands on experience working in the world of hospitality which will guide you to advocate for sustainability in your future career and personal life.

  • Waste Management and Food Recovery
  • Carbon Footprint and Labeling
  • Interest in creating a better community

 

Job Responsibilities (May include any or all):

• Research and Analysis of sustainable best practices

• Coordinate sustainable initiatives and visualizing the source of our food

• Results analysis: preparing metric-backed stories for Business Reviews and other touch points

• Inputting your business Unit’s operations data into reporting programs

• Financials

• Meal Recovery at Warhawk Pantry

• Executing operational standards

• Collaboration with UW-Whitewater Sustainability, the Warhawk Pantry, and other organizations on campus.

• Tabling events and involvement in Teaching Kitchens.

 

 

• Story telling: sharing metric-backed stories with reporting entities (e.g. AASHE STARS, GRA, etc.)

• Working in different settings within the world of hospitality: FOH, BOH, Catering, Admin

• Training dining team and students on sustainable initiatives

• Present findings in reports and presentations

• Demonstrate awareness, understanding and skills necessary to work in a diverse environment.

• Experience opportunities to learn, observe, and practice a variety of experiences in the world of sustainability.

Job Summary

This position is paid, but not eligible for benefits such as medical, relocation, or housing.

 

Because this position requires you to perform services in an educational facility, there may be periods when the Company does not require you to perform work (such as winter and summer breaks when food service needs decline or cease). Any such periods during which you do not perform work on the Company’s behalf may be unpaid and deemed a temporary layoff. However, depending on business needs, you may be required to work year-round, potentially at a different location during break periods.  Business needs may vary from year to year.
