Job Summary

Job Description: Service Estimator


Service Estimator Purpose: Provide accurate job cost proposals and scopes of work for service repairs and projects in the heating, ventilation, plumbing, and air conditioning field in the commercial and industrial sectors.

 

Service Estimator Summary: We are seeking an experienced and meticulous Estimator to join our team in the HVAC and Plumbing industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of HVAC and plumbing systems and components, excellent mathematical skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

 

Estimator Essential Job Functions:

 

Opportunity Development

  1. Assist service team members with estimating, proposal generation and closure of sale of new work.
  2. Review repair/project documentation to understand repair/project requirements.
  3. Accurately estimate HVAC and plumbing repairs/projects including the cost, materials, and labor required based off information provided by technicians and account managers.
  4. Prepare, submit & maintain a log of bid proposals.
  5. Collaborate with service technicians and account managers to analyze repair/project needs, timelines, and budget constraints.
  6. Evaluate subcontractor bids and negotiate pricing to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  7. Maintain a database of supplier and subcontractor contacts and cost history for future estimating needs.
  8. Keep up to date with industry trends, new technologies, and materials to ensure accurate and competitive estimates.
  9. Collaborate with account managers and Director of Service to review and analyze completed repairs/projects for accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
  10. Work closely with dispatch and billing to ensure approved work is set up, completed, and billed.

 

Estimator Experience / Skills:

  1. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the HVAC industry with a proven history.
  2. In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, installation techniques, and industry standards.
  3. Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple estimates at one time.
  4. Excellent communication and people skills to collaborate with technicians, clients, team members and account managers.
  5. Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Ability to interpret repair/project specifications and needs.
  7. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to resolve issues and mitigate repair/project risks.
  8. Deadline and detail oriented.
