Job Summary

As a Catering Director, you will lead all catering operations across The Huntington’s event venues, ensuring seamless execution, exceptional guest experiences, and strong financial performance. This role operates with a high level of independence and maintains direct client relationships while overseeing diverse events including weddings, corporate functions, galas, and institutional programs. Success in this role requires strong leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a commitment to service excellence, operational efficiency, and team development.


 

Responsibilities

 

  • Lead all catering operations across multiple venues, ensuring seamless execution and high-quality guest experiences
  • Oversee the planning and delivery of weddings, corporate events, galas, and institutional programs from setup through service and breakdown
  • Partner with culinary leadership to maintain high standards in menu quality, presentation, and service execution
  • Manage catering financials, including budgeting, pricing strategy, cost controls, and revenue growth initiatives
  • Maintain accountability for labor costs, staffing efficiency, and overall profitability
  • Collaborate with sales and events teams to ensure smooth client handoffs and high satisfaction throughout the event lifecycle
  • Recruit, hire, train, and lead service staff including captains and butlers, while promoting professional growth and development
  • Manage scheduling and staffing levels to support multiple concurrent events effectively
  • Coordinate event logistics, rentals, vendors, and site-specific requirements across gardens and facilities
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and alcohol service regulations
  • Build strong interdepartmental relationships to integrate catering services within overall facility operations
  • Drive operational efficiency, service consistency, and continuous improvement across all catering functions
  • Conduct onboarding and training to ensure adherence to company service standards
  • Handle employee relations, coaching, counseling, and performance management in partnership with leadership
  • Support staffing budgets and maintain financial accountability
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned

 

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience preferred
  • 4–6+ years of experience managing catering events, preferably in high-volume or multi-venue environments
  • Strong knowledge of food service, industry trends, and fine dining service standards
  • Proven ability to oversee full event execution from setup through cleanup
  • TIPS certification required; ServSafe certification preferred
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting and cost control
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership, team development, and employee management experience
  • Exceptional customer service and client relationship management abilities
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven mindset
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct
